Please introduce yourself. What have you been up to?

My name is Vissata Poy Duangwongsri. I have a brand specialized in designing and matching flowers and flooring. The brand is PHKA.

How did you come up with the name PHKA?

I wanted a Thai name. I wanted a short phrase that is easy to pronounce because it is a brand operated by Thais. I also wanted it to express what the business is about, so I chose the name PHKA which means flowers.

What is your flower arrangement style?

We don’t have a distinct style because we want to cater to the design that the clients want.

Where do you like to go?

I try to go to places that exude inspiration, such as museum exhibitions. Because I work in this industry, it’s important to go out and expose myself to different ideas and things.

Each design you come up with, how much of yourself do you put in?

Ironically, I try not to put in any because I’m afraid that it might become too much of myself. We have a design team and it’s more the identity of the design team than me.

If the design was for yourself, how would it look like?

I want it to look simple and minimal. I want the flowers to create as much impact to the floor as possible.

How do you deal with work that is not your style?

I actually like projects that are different from my style because it’s challenging. I like it more than doing projects that I’ve already done. Because my team and I never work on similar projects, that’s why it’s more difficult.

What is your inspiration to work?

It comes from the type of flower. Every type has a distinct smell, a color that can be expressed differently.

How do you choose the type of flowers for different clients?

I try to choose flowers that match the client’s character. Some people do not like flowers at all because they look too sweet, so we have to find flowers that are not too sweet and a bit more rigid.

How much have flowers impact who you are?

A lot. I liked flowers since I was young. I liked collecting flowers. They’re also the main material of PHKA’s designs. It’s like interior design just that the main material is flowers.

Which kind of flower most suit who you are?

This is a question I get asked a lot but I can’t really answer because I like many types of flowers. Working in this industry makes me really happy because I get to come across many types of flowers that I like.

If you had to choose just one, what would it be?

I think I would choose a flower that is structured like cara lily.

If you had to choose one for IRADA, what would it be?

I would have to choose something minimal and feminine, like tulips.

If you had to design for IRADA, how would you do it?

IRADA is a clothing brand. I don’t want to design flowers to match the brand but instead I would want the flowers to be incorporated in the clothes. Perhaps sew the flowers in the clothes to complete the fine detail.
